ST. JOHN’S, April 8, 2019 – Business leader, Janet Bannister, Partner at Real Ventures and Founder of Kijiji.ca, leads the line-up of high-caliber speakers set to present at the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs’ (NLOWE) annual provincial conference.

Now in its 22nd year, NLOWE’s annual provincial conference continues to be the leading professional development event for women business owners and aspiring women entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador. Taking place April 10-11, NLOWE will hold its 2019 Annual Conference at a new location this year at the Conference Centre on Signal Hill in St. John’s.

Keynote speaker, Janet Bannister, started her entrepreneurial journey quite early—at age 15, she started her own healthy baking business. With grit and determination, her fascinating path led her to Silicon Valley and back, eventually resulting in the creation of one of Canada’s most successful commercial websites ever. During her keynote, she will share three important principles and entrepreneurial values that led her to her massive success. First: Be proactive, she says, and create your own opportunities. Launch something new or go after the job you want—tenacity and grit go a long way. Second: Follow your passion, because when you work on what you care about you find maximum success. Third: Treat people well—not only is it ethically important, what goes around comes around.

In choosing this year’s speakers and topics, NLOWE has ensured that presentations are relevant to the challenges facing women entrepreneurs and industry trends in the province.

“Women entrepreneurs are breaking down barriers and leading companies that are changing the business landscape in this province and all over the world,” says Jeanne Stapleton, President of NLOWE’s Board of Directors. “We at NLOWE are so pleased to be able to host some of these amazing women at our annual conference this year as we continue to provide our members and clients with the tools and support they need to grow their businesses.”

Our opening plenary will feature Denise Marek, an International Speaker, Author, and Worry Management Expert. Denise is the author of CALM – A Proven Four Step Process Designed Specifically for Women Who Worryand co-author of The Keys: Open the Door to True Empowerment and Infinite Possibilities. She will kick off the conference by discussing her simple yet powerful formula to help eliminate worry and develop greater inner peace.

Susan Stewart, Comedian, Author and Speaker will close-out the conference. Susan has spent the past 15 years entertaining and inspiring people to see the lighter side of life. She is the author of Reaching The Laugh Resort: Why The Journey To Remembering Who You (Really) Are Is Worth The Jet Lag, Your New Lenses Are Ready For Pick Up: A Guide To Seeing The Lighter Side Of Life, and You Gotta Laugh: Wit And Wisdom About Not Taking Life (Or Yourself) Too Seriously. In the closing plenary she will remind attendees the importance of not taking things too seriously.

Other sessions at this year’s conference include: “Your Greatest Financial Asset is You: What Every Entrepreneur Needs to Know About Income Protection” from finance expert Jackie McCann-Scott of Invested Mama; “Going from ‘Me’ To ‘We’: Understanding the ins and outs of bringing someone into your business (and getting them out)” from partners Anna Cook and Stephanie Hickman of Cox & Palmer; “Owning Your Message: Clarity and Confidence in Media Relations” from public relation professionals AnnMarie Boudreau, Amanda Eid, and Kate Greenwood of NATIONAL Public Relations; “Brand Strategy 101: Elevate Your Brand.
