NLOWE ANNUAL CONFERENCE & ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS HAILED AS SUCCESS

NLOWE held its 2010 Annual Conference & Entrepreneur of the Year Awards on April 21-22 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s. Over 100 women in business as well as government and industry representatives attended the event, which featured workshops and training sessions on social media, marketing, problem solving, and sales and customer services as well as a number of networking sessions to help delegates make connections and do business with each other.

Keynote speakers were Nancy Vonk and Janet Kestin, award-winning creative directors at Ogilvy & Mather Toronto, who entertained a crowd of over 200 during a keynote luncheon focused on drawing applicable lessons from advertising around the world. Plenary speaker Cathrine Ann inspired attendees with her personal tale of prevailing through adversity, and workshop facilitators David Prentice and Terry Fallis provided practical lessons for delegates to bring back to their own businesses.

Over 200 people turned out to the awards gala dinner hosted by comedienne Amy House to help celebrate this year’s winners. Six exceptional businesswomen from across the province were honoured in the categories of Start-up, Innovation, Community Impact, Visionary, Youth and Entrepreneurial Excellence. Since 1998, NLOWE’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards have paid tribute to the province’s most successful female entrepreneurs for their important contributions to the economy. To date, hundreds of women from every sector of the economy have been nominated for one of these awards.

The conference and awards presentation also coincided with NLOWE’s annual general meeting, which saw the election of a new president, Karen Noftall, as well as new board members Sandra Avery (At Large Director) and Eddi Kenny-Boyd (Avalon Director).

NLOWE wishes to thank all of our sponsors, exhibitors and speakers as well as the many businesses and individuals who supported this event.
