To be eligible for an award, a nominee must have been operating a viable business for a minimum of two full years as of March 31, 2008. All women in business, including past NLOWE Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners, are eligible.
Her ownership must be at least equal to any of the other owners. She must also be the acknowledged leader responsible for the day-to-day management, and earn her primary income from the business.
Nominees for the Youth Award must be 35 years of age or younger by March 31, 2008.
The following are eligible for awards:
- Private Companies
- Partnerships
- Franchisees
- Public Companies
The following are NOT eligible for awards:
- Non-Profit Organizations
- Associations
- Elected Officials
- NLOWE Board members
- Board companies - Owners or managers of companies that are owned wholly or in part by current members of the NLOWE Board of Directors
Nominations must be received before February 8, 2008. Anyone can nominate a candidate for an award and self-nominations are welcome. Electronic nominations will also be accepted. Click here to nominate an outstanding woman entrepreneur.
On receipt of a nomination, each nominee will be mailed a letter of congratulations and an awards application package. The nominee must then submit a completed application package. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. A nominee may apply in more than one award category per year – click here for a description of the award categories.
Candidates will be mailed the awards application package upon nomination. Incomplete applications or those containing false information will automatically be disqualified.

All applications must be received before the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on March 14, 2008. No extensions will be granted and applications received after that date will not be considered.
A judging panel, comprised of representation from across the province, will independently review all submissions that meet eligibility requirements. The Selection Committee will identify the top three candidates in each category and come together as a group to discuss and vote. All committee members vote on award winners, except the Executive Director.
Finalists in each category will be notified and invited to attend the NLOWE Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Gala to be held at the Fairmont Newfoundland in St. John’s on April 24, 2008. The Selection Committee’s decisions are final and are not subject to review.
The winners of the NLOWE 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards will be honoured at a gala dinner on April 24, 2008 at the Fairmont Newfoundland in St. John’s. The Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Gala is one of NLOWE’s highlight events and receives extensive media coverage. Press releases will be distributed to the winner’s local media outlets and winners will be the focus of extensive advertising and promotion. Past nominees, applicants and winners have found that the awards program has opened new doors for them while generating respect and approval from their peers and customers.
